St. Patrick’s Festival is celebrated each year in Montserrat on March 17th – St Patrick’s Day. This Caribbean event commemorates the island’s rich Irish heritage, as well as the slave uprising that allegedly took place on that day in 1768. The week-long festival features a host of cultural activities including a Church Service, lecture, exhibition, guided hikes and freedom Run, Heritage Day and Slave Feast, parade and revival of traditional games from yesteryear.
2024 marks the 42nd celebration which is anticipated to be the biggest ever, with a jammed packed schedule of events taking place during the day and at night.
At this major Caribbean festival, local culture and music come alive with performances from Masqueraders -masked street dancers in traditional costumes, tall head dresses and whips dancing to the lively sound of fife and drum. Montserrat is one of the few islands where St Patrick’s Day is celebrated in such a big way so put it on your must attend events to check out.
